Mrs. Scottie Bruch, Head Librarian
I was born and raised on a ranch outside of Sturgis, and I am an SBHS grad.  After
graduating high school, I began my coaching career at SBHS and SWMS and attended college at BHSU.  I was then privileged to teach 7th grade geography and reading at SWMS for three years before taking a short break from teaching to stay at home with my children and become a yoga instructor.  During that time, I was also the assistant director and teen services coordinator at the Sturgis Public Library.  When I returned to the school district, I taught 6th grade social studies at SWMS.  In 2014, I was thrilled to be in a new position as the High School and Middle School Library Media Specialist.  It has been a great three years of exploring this wonderfully dynamic and collaborative world of library media services!
My husband and I have two young boys, and we are all outdoor enthusiasts, adventure-seekers, and travelers.  In the last few years, we have traveled to the West Coast, the East Coast, Mexico, Canada, Kenya, Tanzania, Honduras, Ireland, Wales, England, France, Spain, Andorra, Alaska, Norway, Denmark, and the Dominican Republic.  We are also all readers, and we love to see the places that we have read about come to life when we travel.  In addition to traveling and reading, I also love to hike, ski, bike, cook, practice and teach yoga, garden, camp, paddleboard, run, and keep myself challenged in a variety of other ways.

Mrs. Patty VanHeel, Library Paraprofessional
I resided east river until 2004 when I became a west riverian :)
I was born in the 60's, grew up in the 70's, got married and had a family (a daughter and a son) in the 80's, and ran a state registered daycare for 10 yrs. In the mid-90s, I went to school to become a massage therapist and then started a massage therapy school in the late 90's in Castlewood, SD.
We moved our family to Sturgis in 2004, and I now have a wonderful son-in-law and a beautiful daughter-in-law, 3 grandsons, and 2 grand-fur babies. I thoroughly enjoy working with Mrs. Bruch in the libraries at SWMS and SBHS. And the weather on this side of the river is much more appealing.
